SHHE is the project of Scottish-Portuguese sound artist, musician, and producer Su Shaw, based in Dundee, Scotland.
Her multidisciplinary practice explores identity and connection through the intersection of sound, space, environment, and ecology.
SHHE’s eponymous debut album was shortlisted for the Scottish Album of the Year Award, and her 2024 mini-album ‘DÝRA’ further expanded her immersive approach to sound and environment.
New album ‘THALASSA’ is a six-part ambient work giving voice to the Mediterranean Sea at a moment of ecological and political crisis. Developed following a residency in Alexandria, Egypt, the record reflects on humanity’s dependence on water and the fragile systems that govern access to it. Composed using a custom-built modular synthesiser and voice-based experimentation, the project continues Shaw’s long-term research into hydro-politics, environmental change and listening as a creative practice.
Her sound works, performances, and installations have been presented internationally at institutions and festivals including V&A Dundee (co-commissioned by MSCTY Tokyo), Sonica Glasgow, Dundee Contemporary Arts, Edinburgh Festival, Celtic Connections, Summerhall and Radiophrenia, as well as across Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Iceland, Brazil, Egypt and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
SHHE is also a Cryptic Artist, an alumna of Julie’s Bicycle’s Creative Climate Leadership programme, and co-founder and producer of dundee radio club.
